Scenario
The story of how a young Donald Trump started his real estate business in the 1970s and 1980s in New York City with the help of infamous attorney Roy M. Cohn. Roger Stone, a longtime associate of Donald Trump and Roy M. Cohn, admitted that Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Cohn was “terrifying in its accuracy.” [From the trailer] Roy Cohn: Rule Three: No matter what, you claim victory and never admit defeat. Shocking scenes usually have a purpose
Cutler Published by BMG Rights Management (UK) Limited.. Movies have been going through a lot of changes lately and I’m here for it. Megalopolis was a wonderful mess, Joker 2 was a mess without being wonderful (but I think it had its risks), Terrifier 3 really made me sick (I didn’t sleep well last night because I watched it last night too), and now The Apprentice is going to some crazy places. There were several points where I was like, “Are they allowed to show this?” I was shocked. I think the point of the movie is made without much subtlety, but I think some people still think Jordan Belfort is great based on The Wolf of Wall Street, so who knows.
Will Trump sue?
On the other hand, there is one very disturbing scene that seems to be there to tell the filmmakers unequivocally what they think of Trump’s character. This will be the most controversial scene. Has that lawsuit already started? There’s also a lack of continuity in this scene, which made me even more uneasy and upset. I think that was the intention.
The three leads – Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong and Maria Bakalova – are phenomenal
Some people won’t like it—people who like and dislike Trump—and I wonder if this will make The Apprentice the Blonde of the year. The writing is telling in The Apprentice and I don’t think I knew how to end it, but I also found it fascinating. The juxtaposition of Trump’s rise with Roy Cohn’s fall was an unavoidable plot point, but it makes for an extremely compelling drama. The film is tough, but there are nuances in some parts that I think will generate discussion and/or controversy. I don’t always like provocation, but when it feels purposeful and is supported by a good film, I’m on board.
This film will be stuck in my head for a while
