The show switches back to the present
Scenario
Jackal is an invisible killer who earns his living by hitting the highest bucks. He soon meets a tough British intelligence officer who pursues him on an adventurous cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. “Day of the Jackal”; The novel is set in 1963 and includes an assassination attempt on then French President Charles de Gaulle.
Remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
The Day of the Jackal is a technically sophisticated and ambitious remake of the 1973 classic. His brilliantly understated portrayal held my attention throughout the series. I especially appreciated how the show modernized the source material.
That said, I had some significant issues with the series
It smartly addresses the challenges a modern killer faces in our digital surveillance, social media and sophisticated security systems. I was not convinced by Lashana Lynch’s performance as the MI6 agent. She seemed to lack the necessary gravitas for such a leading role, which unfortunately detracted from what should have been a compelling cat-and-mouse dynamic at the heart of the story.
Despite these shortcomings, there is much to appreciate
I was also frustrated by the walk-through and unnecessary underlining. In particular, the MI6 agent’s family drama felt like a formulaic addition that eased the tension of the main storyline. The technical execution is impressive and the supporting cast gives strong performances – Charles Dance is a special standout.

While it may not reach the heights of the 1973 version, and it doesn’t quite live up to its potential, I still recommend it to horror fans. The new season of “Silo” was one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of the month.
